1998 Volvo V70R

Finished in classic saffron with half leather and Alcantara interior; recent £5k+ spend on new Bilstein dampers, Brembo brakes, Polybushes and major service - a proper Modern Classic Q-car

V70R was Volvo’s understated yet very cool successor to the perhaps even cooler 850 T5R, always popular with traffic cops as undercover Q-cars during the 90s with their discreet looks and spanking acceleration.

As a first phase car from October 1998, this striking example is finished in Saffron, and features the 2.3 turbocharged five-pot mated to automatic transmission which develops 237bhp.  Boasting a superior spec, the R models enjoy half suede and leather interior with diamond stitching and upgraded stereos, electric heated seats, blue gauges and smart 17inch alloy wheels.

This lovely example was first supplied new by Johnson Volvo of Worcester to the Postmaster of Malvern Link, before travelling around the country with a further six owners until our vendor purchased the car from us in 2020, since when he has continued to enjoy the car as intended covering some 8,000 miles whilst expending some £5,187 on detailed works to the car, with much of it done to the underside.

These works were carried out by Midland Classic Restorations through summer 2021 and include fitment of new Bilstein front and rear dampers, new Brembo discs and pads, four new brake calipers, fitment of Polybushes, new lower front arms, stabiliser links and a full service including plugs.  We also note fitment of new head lights, indicator lenses and tailgate struts.

The history file includes the V5C; a service book boasting some fifteen stamps and a further two evidenced by invoices which were not stamped, most recently in March 2019. The current MOT runs until March 2020 with no advisories and there are 12 old MOT certificates which along with the service history backs up its modest 162,578 miles – nothing for one of these stellar beasts. A truly reluctant sale, it will be sorely missed particuarly given the outlay on keeping the car up to par.
