1997 Volkswagen Golf VR6 (MkIII)
Rare to find
3-door 2.8 VR6 in Highline spec with black leather interior, sunroof, A.C and
deep dish Borbet alloy wheels - very cool and a proper up and coming Modern
Classic
Dating from February 1997 this later
model MkIII VW Golf comes to us in now rare to see, and highly desirable VR6
Highline spec.
Finished in black, the car rocks
a lowered stance, with Euro style head lights, smoked indicators and rear light
clusters and lower lip to the bumper and sits upon a set of Borbet 17” deep dish
two-tone alloy wheels wearing stretch tyres to give it a mean, dominant posture
and presence. We also note fitment of a Scorpion
exhaust back box and rear spoiler to the hatch back boot
lid.
Under the bonnet, we find the 2792cc 2.8
litre VR6 engine (AAA engine code) which develops 174Bhp and 235NM of torque
driving the front wheels via five-speed manual transmission which gave the MkIII
VR6 a zero-sixty time of 7.5 seconds – not bad for the
period.
Inside, as a Highline spec car we find
a full black leather interior with manual adjustment, heated front seats, wooden
gear-knob, air conditioning, sunroof, electric windows, electric mirrors, MFA
(trip computer) and black head lining with contrasting light grey
trim.
The car shows 158,355 miles which is
supported by a file of history including the V5C revealing six former keepers to
the current of four years, a considerable file of invoices and bills for parts
and maintenance dating back to 1997, 12 old MOTs and the current valid until
February 2023 which recorded three minor advisories for brake disc worn, damage
to windscreen and number plate deterioration.
A
tidy and mean looking example with the right engine and spec – one to use and
enjoy or tuck away as they become rarer and rarer and more valuable as a
result.
