1935 Ford V8 Opera Coupe
Many thousands spent
on upgrades in preparation for rallies in UK and Japan
This car
was originally built in the Ford factory in Canada, benefitting from “Empire
preference” and shipped to South Africa where it lived until the late
'80s.
It was
purchased by the vendor about 15 years ago and the 3.3 V8 engine was totally
rebuilt by Ford specialist Belcher Engineering. It was rust-free and didn’t
require any welding.
It was
decided to modify the car to make it comfortable to drive on today’s busy roads.
It keeps up with modern traffic and according to the vendor is comfortable,
handles well and stops well.
It has the
following upgrades; Toyota 5-speed gearbox, front disc brakes, electronic
ignition,
individual
high back seats with headrests and seat belts, fuel and cooling systems upgraded
to cope with E10 fuel at ambient temperatures up to 45 degrees C, Michelin
X radial tyres which improve the handling.
The car went on a four-week 'Samurai Challenge'
rally across Japan in 2017 and was driven for up to 14 hours per day and was found
to be comfortable, cruising continuously at 60mph for long distances.
