1975 Volkswagen Type 182 Trekker

Rare to see UK market example from long term ownership with useful recent works undertaken inc. engine rebuild and unleaded conversion

With our long term vendor for the last seven years, this particularly chunky looking Volkswagen Trekker dates from July 1975 and has seen limited summer fun use during our vendors tenure. Looking the part in its flat off-yellow paint with big black deep dish steel wheels and big Continental tyres it smacks of care-free Summer days at the beach with its removable black bikini roof and go-anywhere charm.

Starting promptly and running with vigour, it sounds very throaty through its sporty exhaust, the 1.6 litre air-cooled engine no doubt providing enough performance and noise for most.

The front seats are from FK and provide good comfort and support, whilst the rears are removable and of a rough, hard wearing fabric style in keeping with the vehicles colour.

The history file includes the V5C revealing seven former keepers to our vendor and a host of Trekker and Kubelwagen history, which the Trekker is loosely based on plus a note from the vendor on what he has done to the vehicle during his ownership (although there are no supporting invoices) which include an unleaded conversion for the engine, trim parts for the engine to keep it looking sharp, new head bolts and pistons, complete clutch kit, , new gearbox mounts, carb and dizzy, new fuel pump and sender, new lights and LED conversion, re-wire of the dash switches, battery cut-out, new front seats along with some minor bodywork.

Ready to be enjoyed with a current MOT valid until the end of May 2022 which recorded just two minor advisories for front wheel bearing play its apparent from the MOT history the vehicle has seen little recent use with less than 600 miles covered since last MOT’d in 2017.

A rare Thing (as it was officially known in the United States!) this Type 182 (RHD, Type 181 was LHD) Trekker is bound to turn heads and make you smile this summer - it looks appealing at its modest guide price.
