1989 Volkswagen Polo C (MkII)
3-owner
'breadvan' showing just 38,470 miles from new, husband and wife owned from
1989-2017 - timewarp example
Supplied new by
South Hereford garages Limited official VW dealer in August 1989 this splendid
and wonderfully simple MkII Polo 86C ‘Breadvan’ Chukka edition has had just
3-owners from new and boasts only 38,470 miles from new.
Finished in dark
red metallic with contrasting black grill, bumpers, side trim and roof rails it
still rides on its original steel wheels with plastic trims - the car is a
time-warp example in lovely, unmolested order. Inside, the light grey cloth trim
looks unworn and features optional extras such as a sun-roof and Panasonic
Radio/cassette player costing £300 extra on the purchase price of £6,500.00
which also included an ‘on the road pack’, 12 months road tax according to the
original bill of sale on file.
Under the bonnet, we find Volkswagen’s
simple, yet effective 1,043cc inline four-cylinder engine driving the front
wheels via 4-speed manual transmission. Starting and running as it should the
car oozed charm and retro-appeal.
The history file includes the V5C
showing the first two owners were husband and wife, ownership transferring to
the wife in 2012 following her husband’s death. She kept until 2017 when our
vendor acquired the car as a friend of the owners, keeping it garaged but
starting it regularly and making sure it remained in good state.
In
addition, we find the original purchase receipt as previously referenced, the
owner’s pack and service book revealing just 1 stamp, for its delivery
inspection/service in August 1989, Haynes manual and few recent invoices for
tyres (all 4) in 2021, wheel and master cylinder in 2018 and current MOT valid
until October 2022 recording no advisories. The MOT history confirms what the
vendor told us, that the car looks to have remained predominantly off-the road
following the first owner’s demise in 2012 with only 1,000 miles covered between
tests in 2011 to 2013 and then no test at all until October this year which it
flew through showing only c.150 miles have been covered since 2013.
A
rare opportunity to acquire a cracker of a ‘Breadvan’ with low mileage, low
ownership and in a completely unmolested state.
