Description
1986 Citroen 2CV6 Dolly
Good running order;
long MOT
Launched way back in 1948, the Citroen 2CV was a
masterpiece of minimalist design and remained in production for over 40 years.
Made from mostly flat stamped panels, cheap and easy to repair, it was held
together with just sixteen bolts. Although the original 375cc air-cooled
flat-twin engine grew, eventually, to 602cc, the 2CV’s performance remained
modest at around 70 mph flat out, not that that concerned the majority of its
devotees for whom the roomy interior, full-length sunroof, remarkable off-road
abilities and frugal fuel consumption were of far greater importance.
A 1953 technical review in Autocar described ‘the
extraordinary ingenuity of this design, which is undoubtedly the most original
since the Model T Ford’. Less than half the price of a VW Beetle, it was a
massive success, transforming the lives of the rural poor and selling over 3.8
million examples before production finally came to an end in 1990.
This particular 2CV Dolly was first registered in
September 1986 but other than that there is precious little we can tell you
about it as it has no documents other than a V5C, an MOT until March 2022 (with
no advisories recorded) plus an invoice for two new wiper blades and a new king
pin set in March 2021 when it also required 4 hours of labour to address some
minor MOT failure points.
As you can see in the photos, it looks to be in generally
presentable condition throughout and shows 67,712 miles on the clock, an online
MOT history check revealing that it has been only lightly used in recent years,
clocking up some 4,000 miles since 2007.
Starting promptly and running well as we have moved it
around on site, it also comes with a Haynes workshop manual and a few useful
spares.
