1986 Ford Fiesta Mk2 Rally Car

Successfully completed the 2013 Mongol Rally and barely used since; only 42,000 miles from new; ready for more adventures

First registered in Staffordshire in January 1988, this Ford Fiesta 1.1 L three-door hatchback was leading a nice quiet life until 2013 when it was spotted at a local Ford dealer in Barton-under-Needwood. At this point it had barely left the county, covering only 26,000 miles in the hands of two careful lady owners, the service book showing five stamps up to 25,827 miles in October 2012. This peaceful life in the slow lane was about to be rudely shattered because its new owner had big plans for the little car, plans that would soon see it battling sandstorms and icy mountain peaks on the other side of the planet. He entered it into the 2013 Mongol Rally, a gruelling long-distance event only open to small, cheap cars with engines no larger than 1,200cc and with no overly-fancy rally preparation. The only modifications made to the Fiesta were a roll cage, a sump guard, heavy duty gas shocks, twin batteries, big mud flaps, lots of stickers and a partial respray in bright red. Half the cars on the event failed to finish, but not only did the plucky Fiesta get all the way across the Gobi desert to Ulaanbaatar (via Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan), it then turned round and drove all the way home again via Siberia and Moscow. What’s more, during this epic, three-month, 16,000-mile journey, it never once broke down or even missed a beat. The intrepid adventurer then sold the car, now with 41,800 miles on the clock,since when it has been sitting around barely turning a wheel. Its recent MOT history shows it has covered some 100 miles since, its current MOT running until July 2022.

Still in remarkably good shape considering what it has been through, this feisty Fiesta retains all its original handbooks and is now crying out for an intrepid new owner who can treat it to yet more adventures.
