Big bruiser
with an MOT until Jan 2021; cost over £80,000 when new; bonkers
value
Dating from May 2002 this sleek, pillar-less C215 series
coupe was the pinnacle of the Mercedes range in the early noughties, being the
rarer, more select version of the S-class saloon minus two doors.
Powered by a 316bhp 5.0 V8 engine and driven through
silky-smooth five speed automatic transmission with Sports and Winter mode,
there’s the option to take a sportier drive with Tiptronic ability. The car is
finished in brilliant silver with light grey leather interior, the leather
covering all surfaces, complimented by walnut trim throughout. The CL’s often
featured, as here, double-glazing for a whisper quiet journey along with
soft-close doors and boot. There is also Comand navigation and in car
entertainment along with dual zone climate control, automatic lights, electric
heated memory seats which includes the steering wheel position, mirrors and even
internal mirror. The car features a sunroof and original in-car period Nokia
mobile phone which links to the Comand system.
The car rides on adjustable air suspension which can also
raise and lower the car along with providing a firmer, sportier ride by pressing
the ‘ABC Sport’ (Active Body Control) button. There are parking sensors front
and rear along with clever automatic cylinder shut-off technology for better
fuel economy. The car is fitted with all-season winter tyres on the rear after
a trip to southern Germany last winter and rides on a set of attractive after
market alloy wheels which really set the car off nicely.
The history file includes the V5C, old V5C, old MOTs,
owner’s pack with manuals along with service maintenance invoices from local
Mercedes specialist Gerry Doverman including replacement of both lower control
arms, a repair to the Comand unit, replacement of a faulty control unit,
steering rack joints, wishbones, full services, discs and pads, drive belts and
pulleys, bushes and brake hoses the lot in the past few years totalling some
£6,000! The service book shows some 10 stamps, with eight by Mercedes
main dealers which bodes well.
The car is understood to drive well, has
just had a brand new battery fitted and has worn its 130,000 miles with
consummate ease, nothing for one of these lazy V8s. The car comes with a current
MOT running until January 2021 with just one minor advisory for tyre wear. An
£80,000 car (when new) has seldom been so affordable or appealing, especially at
No Reserve.
